About the Artist

Artist's Statement

Bill's use of his computer as a creative tool for expression as well as an adjustment tool for photographs is a unique approach.

His interest lies in the creation of art that expresses other dimensions from so-called reality. Bill seeks to create pieces that transcend the traditional limits of process and media. He explores fine art in the same fashion he plays music - to express his innermost feelings.

Part of his fascination with digital art is the immediacy it allows his creative process. Bill likens this to the spontaneous experience of drumming.

"Damn the rules." - John Coltrane

Biography

Bill Kreutzmann is originally from Palo Alto, California. As a child, Bill's creative horizons were already firmly centered in his love of music. He started playing the drums at age 13 and by 19 had helped form the Warlocks - later known as the Grateful Dead.

Bill's interest in creating digital visual art began in 1993 when he got his first computer, a Powerbook 540C, and loaded Photoshop 3.0. Jerry Garcia, already a proficient computer artist, showed Bill how to use the Mac in an LA hotel room days after he aquired the machine. Since then Bill has been avidly pursuing the creation of fine digital art using tools including Photoshop and various rendering software. Starting in 2001 he began to release limited edition reproductions of his work.
